Leaked specifications of 2017 iphone 8

If rumours prove to be true, the 2017 iPhone 8 may just be the first smartphone to come with 3D photography capabilities. According to a report in The Korea Economic Daily, Appl e has collaborated with LG to develop a new dual camera module that 'enables 3D photographing.'

The dual camera module that sits in the iPhone 7 Plus is also made by LG. LG Innotek, a global specialized material and component manufacturer is set to supply a dual camera module once more to the upcoming iPhones.

Apple already has quite a patents for 3D object and gesture recognition filed quite some time ago. Five years back, Apple had filed a patent for a 3D camera with object and gesture recognition abilities. The patent described a 3D imaging camera that made use of microlenses, depth-sensing, chrominance and luminance sensors to recognize facial expressions and gestures, in addition to creating 3D models of the scanned objects.

The new rumoured 3D camera under development may finally bring these features over to the iPhones.

However, it may also turn out to be nothing more than an enhanced Portrait Mode, which will make use of parallax effect to build a 3D model of a scene to better identify the foreground and the background and then use machine learning to blur them out accordingly.

The cameras rumoured to being developed will be more compact and that may be an indication that all models of the iPhone 8 may come with dual-cameras and the acclaimed Portrait Mode.
